"T2D-Db" is a comprehensive database of all the molecular factors involved in the pathogenesis of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in human, mouse and rat. It comprises information from various publicly available resources and literatures. All informations in T2D-Db are presented systematically in a well organized manner to serve the diabetes research community world wide. It also provides an overview of Type 2 diabetes, pathophysiology, molecular basis and major factors causing T2DM and its associated complications. It compiles information on candidate genes of about 159, 59 and 36 from human, mouse and rat respectively for Type 2 Diabetes.
The primary information in T2D-Db for each candidate gene includes gene locus, gene description, and chromosome number. Information on orthologs and homologs from NCBI Entrez gene and Homologene (NCBI) respectively are available with external links. Gene ontology based informations for each candidate gene are provided with link to Gene Ontology database. Transcript sequences of candidate genes are also available in T2D-Db from Unigene (NCBI) and DoTS transcripts of EPConDB. It harbors pathway information from databases such as Biocarta, KEGG and Reactome and also has links for each pathway to those databases. Informations about gene expression pattern are provided in gene expression section including tissue specific gene expression data from GNF SymAtlas, EST from dbEST and microarray expression data across different experiments from GEO (NCBI) along with heat map view. Protein-protein interaction informations are available for gene candidates of type 2 diabetes in T2D-Db extracted from APID and PIP. SNP browse helps in finding the information about the marker, mutation, its chromosomal number and position, and also has an external link to SNP database. Information regarding the type 2 diabetes can also be searched in T2D-Db using known risk factors for this disease. T2D-Db also has external links to OMIM, HapMap, NCBI map viewer, Ensembl, MGI, etc.
T2D-Db has been implemented with exhaustive variety of search options in order to assist the user in gathering reliable information with ease. In each section of T2D-Db, users can limit a query using an appropriate search option. Users are also provided with save option which facilitates to save data in a batch mode in every section of the database.
